ARTIST STATEMENT
I have always been a person who is not very gifted with communication skills or expressing myself through spoken word. Talking is difficult for me and I never say what I really want to say. The only time I am truly myself is when I pick up a pencil and write, or a paint brush to paint. I channel all the unspoken words I am afraid to say into my creative projects, and have an easy time expressing myself in a creative way. In second grade, I realized that being creative is my calling. Now, all these years later, I have been accepted to a college for graphic design and hope to go far in life being imaginative. Throughout the course of a project, sometimes things don't turn out as planned. I like to experiment with new things and all sorts of different media, and i enjoy combining materials to get neat effects. I enjoy using techniques I am familiar with but enjoy switching it up and learning, even if at times I don't succeed. My current work has been the result of my journey to find myself this past year. This year, although filled with challenges and self-doubt, has taught me that it's better to be myself and be free than to live to please everyone else. In my artwork, I express my need for freedom and peace of mind. |
